How Pro Health Infrared Heaters are Made
Special conductive wire is coiled tightly around a glass tube and
then coated with an infrared emitting ceramic coating.  This is
then inserted in the main ceramic tube.  When an electric current
is passed through the coiled wire it heats the ceramic coating
which produces infrared heat which is transferred to the outer
ceramic tube and radiated into the sauna.  The glass tube holds
the coiled wire in place, preventing overheating in any one area
and the heat transfer between the two ceramic tubes provides
even heat distribution.  This is a more expensive process, but a
much more effective method of producing far infrared heat
which has greater benefits for therapeutic purposes.
Some sauna manufacturers still use single walled loose
wound  ceramic heaters like the white one shown above
because they are a lot cheaper.  We use a double wall, tight
wound ceramic heater.  With this type of heater you get
even, constant heat from one end of the heater to the other.
You don't get any "hot spots" and you get a lot more
infrared being emitted at a cooler temperature because of
the double wall construction which distributes the heat
evenly.  This gives you a more comfortable deeper
penetrating sauna which produces better blood circulation
and detoxification.  These heaters are very energy efficient,
a one hour sauna costs about 15 cents in energy use.
Both infrared heaters shown above have been
evaluated by Ircon, Inc., who are infrared specialists.
Here are some of their comments.

"In both cases both of them will absolutely emit
energy at 5-15 microns.  In fact they emit energy from
the visible to 1000 microns but the majority of the
energy is really emitted in the region of 2 to about 15
microns. The best heater will be the black heater.
You have to think of a heater as the reverse of an
absorber.  You know that a black object will absorb
more energy than a white object.  Well the opposite
of absorption is radiation.  If the object is a good
absorber then it is a good emitter.  If you took both
the white heater and the black heater and set them at
the same temperature the black heater will emit more
infrared energy so stick with the black heater, it is
much better. I don't have to do any further testing,
they will both emit at 5-15 microns there is no way to
stop it."
The Infrared Spectrum
Infrared is measured in microns and goes from .76 to 1000
microns.  (See Chart Below)  This is broken down into near
infrared, mid infrared, and far infrared.  The far infrared
waves are the most beneficial for the body especially in
the 5.6 to 15 micron range.  The waves around 9.4 are best
absorbed by the body.  Most sauna mfg. use infrared
heaters that have a range between 5 and 15 microns for
this reason.
